Abstract

1519769 Electrical connector POST OFFICE 26 Jan 1976 [18 Nov 1974] 49878/74 Heading H2E An electrical connector comprises a first member at least partially received within a second member for relative rotation about an axis of rotation, said first and second members being infixed axial relationship and having respective first and second opposed surfaces one of which is contoured so that, when a conductor is inserted between the surface portions, relative rotation of the members causes the conductor to be drawn further into the connector in a direction substantially parallel to said axis of rotation, the member which has the contoured portion being electrically conducting. In the embodiment shown, an electrically conducting cylindrical member 3 is threaded, an outer member 2 having tapered recesses 7 which may each receive a conductor 8. A circlip 5 is received in a groove 4 at each end of member 3, portions 6 of the circlip abutting the end faces of member 2 without obstructing the end entry opening of each recess 7. An end of the threaded member may be provided with a screwdriver slot 11, may be knurled, or may be formed with wings in the manner of a wing nut. In a second embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown), relative axial movement of the members is prevented by a projection (18) of theoutermember snap-engaging in a recess (17) of the threaded inner member, the recess separating threaded portions of opposite hands. Thus, since aligned recesses (7b) extend from each end face of the outer member, conductors may be drawn into the connector simultaneously from both ends thereof. In a third embodiment, a terminal (Fig. 3, not shown) has an outer conducting threaded member, an inner member being provided with tapered recesses for receiving the conductors.
