Abstract

Phenoxyalkanecarboxylic esters of hydroxyalkyl salicylates of the formula I are prepared by reacting a p-chlorophenoxyalkanecarboxylic acid with a hydroxyalkyl ester of salicylic acid or by reacting a hydroxyalkyl ester of a p-chlorophenoxyalkanecarboxylic acid with a salicylic acid. R2, R3 and R4 have the meaning stated in Claim 1. When R2 is hydrogen, the chlorophenoxyalkanecarboxylic acid residue for R2 can be introduced during the reaction, or the resulting compound can subsequently be acetylated. The resulting compounds display excellent antilipaemic activity while being well tolerated. <IMAGE>
