Abstract
1519369 Pure silica VEB SILIKATROHSTOFF KOMBINAT KEMMLITZ 19 Aug 1976 [22 Aug 1975] 34662/76 Heading C1A Substantially pure silica, with less than 0À005% by weight of Fe 2 O 3 and less than 0À0005% by weight of other heavy metal oxides, is obtained by crushing and grading a raw material containing more than 95% by weight of SiO 2 to grain sizes below 0À5 mm, treating with HCI or with H 2 SO 4 of up to 30% strength, maintaining a solid-to-liquid weight ratio of 3:1 to 1:2, at 20‹-100‹C for 0À5 to 10 hr., with continuous agitation in an agitator suction filter, filtering off the material in the suction filter, washing the residue with water and optionally concd. HCl, or with an organic solvent boiling at 40‹-150‹C to dissolve metal salts, and drying the residue in the filter or discharging the washed residue by the agitator means and then drying it.
