Abstract

1518156 Pressure vessels GKN BUILDING SUPPLIES & SERVICES Ltd 6 Sept 1976 [12 Sept 1975] 37540/75 Heading B1X [Also in Divisions El and F4] A pressure-resisting gas storage container comprises a tubular body 10, and two end covers 13, 14 held in place by two sets of tensioned reinforcing tendons located outside the body 10, one set being associated with each end cover, each tendon 22, 27 extending from a position intermediate the ends of body 10 over an end cover 13, 14, individual tendons 22 of one set being connected to individual tendons 27 of the other set at the intermediate position. As shown in Fig. 1, each end cover 13, 14 has a ring 19 20 to which the tendons are anchored by nuts 23, 27a, the tendons being connected by bolts passing through plates 24, 28 engaging enlarged heads on the tendon ends. The tendons are tensioned by tightening the nuts 23, 27a or the bolts or by applying a clamping member to the plates 24, 28 and then tightening the bolts. Alternatively the container may be pressurised to force the end covers apart, the gaps thus forming being filled with, e.g. grout. The tendons may be in the form of loops extending over the end cover, Fig. 4, and are preferably embedded in mortar 50 to provide corrosion protection.
