Abstract

1518155 Transistor oscillator SIEMENS AG 11 Sept 1975 [2 Oct 1974] 37494/75 Heading H3T In a HF oscillator, e.g. for surgical purposes, positive feedback across a transistor stage via a ferrite cored transformer is arranged so that prolonged off-load operation causes heating of the core past its Curie point, so reducing the coupling and the current through the transistor. The core, preferably in the form of a ferrite rod heated preferentially near its centre provides the coupling between windings 3, 4, their inductances with capacitors 4, 5 controlling the frequency around 1 MHz, the power output being taken from terminal 10 via capacitor 9 from between capacitors 4, 5. Foot switch 17 should switch off the oscillator when not required: the circuit protects the power transistor I from thermal damage in the event of switch 17 failing to switch off The maximum core loss occurs in the off-load condition (see equivalent circuit, Fig. 3 not shown) raising the temperature to the Curie point of 190‹C (Fig. 2 not shown), the sharp fall in relative permeability from about 400 to e.g. 100 causing a rise in frequency and fall in coupling, so driving the transistor I less hard.
