Abstract

1517679 Ejector apparatus for the explosive discharge of powders A I ZVEREV and A S BONDARENKO 28 March 1977 12894/77 Heading F1E [Also in Division B2] Apparatus for discharging powdered coating materials comprises an elongate explosion chamber 1, Fig. 1, closed at one end and open at the other, a spark-plug 4 mounted in the chamber 1, a chamber 2 for preparation of an explosive mixture and communicating with the chamber 1, and a device 3 for metering the pulverulent coating material, said device including a hopper 10 communicating with the chamber 1 via a passage 11, Fig. 2, a non-return valve to close the passage upon back impact of an explosive wave from chamber 1, and a gas-permeable partition 18 within the hopper. The partition defines, with the hopper walls, an annular space 19 communicating with a source of compressed gas which prevents the material in the hopper becoming compacted. The valve comprises a resilient diaphragm 26 clamped between two body parts and having a hole 27. A projection 21 on the hopper bottom serves as a seat for closing the hole. The passage 11 leads to a flexible tube 29, the effective cross-section of which is controlled by means 30 - 32. Gas is also supplied to the hopper through a central permeable tube 20. The coating material is mixed at 9 with the explosive mixture, which passes through a nozzle 13, in the region of a Venturi 59. In a modification, Fig. 3 the chamber is formed by two telescopically interconnected parts 41, 42, the part 42 terminating in a nozzle 44. The chamber 1 is purged with neutral gas after the discharge.
