Abstract

1516217 Mounting drive shafts in motorcycles HONDA GIKEN KOGYO KK 3 Sept 1975 [5 Sept 1974] 36270/75 Heading B7H The output shaft 1 of a motor-cycle gear box is connected to a wheel drive input 7 by a propellor shaft 2 with a rear fork R, the shafts 1, 2 being disconnectible by axial movement of shaft 2 towards shaft 7, this arrangement affording easy removal of the engine-gear box unit. The shaft 2 carries a universal joint 3 which is splined connected at 4 to shaft 1. A splined sleeve 8 at the other end of the shaft 2 is slidably mounted on splines 9 carried by the imput 7. After removal of a securing pin 10 and a circlip 5 the shaft 2 may be slid rearwardly until the connection between joint 3 and shaft 1 is broken. The shaft 2 may be connected to one or both of the other shafts by a dog clutch.
