Abstract

1515473 Adducts of phenols with ethylene and/or propylene oxides CIBA-GEIGY AG 10 March 1977 [27 March 1976] 12419/76 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] Adducts of (alkyl)phenols with ethylene and/or propylene oxide, useful as diluents in epoxy resin compositions, are prepared. Phenol is reacted with propylene oxide. Nonylphenol (isomer mixture) is reacted with ethylene oxide. A mixture of phenol (29-32%), monoisopropyl phenols (47-53%), diisopropylphenols (15-18%) and triisopropylphenols (2-4% by wt.) is reacted with ethylene oxide. In each case a slight molar excess of alkylene oxide is used with triethylamine as catalyst.
