Abstract

1529740 Poly(aminoalkylene)substituted phenols MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 16 March 1976 [17 March 1975] 10533/76 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] The invention comprises a mixture of compounds prepared from cordanol and of general Formula la wherein R is a straight chain, unsubstituted aliphatic hydrocarbyl substituent of 15 carbon atoms and 0, 1, 2 or 3 carbon to carbon double bonds x is an integer of 1-5, n is an integer of 1-3 and the polyamino alkyl substituent is o- or pto the OH group which may be prepared by reacting cordanol (acid treated distilled cashew nut shell liquid), formaldehyde and a polyamine of formula in mole ratios of formaldehyde : cordanol of 1À6 to 2À5 : 1, polyamine : cordanol of 1À5 to 2À5 : 1 and formaldehyde to polyamine 1À05 to 1À25 : 1. The compounds of Formula la have application as curing agents for epoxy resins especially those comprising a glycidyl ether of an aromatic phenol.
