Abstract

1515425 Preservation BP CHEMICALS Ltd 28 April 1977 [19 May 1976 29 Nov 1976] 20639/76 and 49608/76 Heading A2D A method of inhibiting the growth of micro organisms in foodstuffs, particularly bread comprises incorporating therein an acid propionate in an amount of between 0.01 and 1.0% by weight. The acid propionate salt is a salt of propionic acid and sodium, potassium, ammonium, calcium or magnesium, the ratio of the acid to cation being from 2:1 to 4:1.
