Abstract
1515259 Boundary layer control BRIDGESTONE TIRE KK 23 March 1977 [29 March 1976 8 Dec 1976] 12188/76 Heading F2R [Also in Division B1] Oil is recovered from a water surface by a ship, Fig. 1, having a guide member 3 which guides the oil Q into a collecting tank 4 from which it is pumped to a storage tank 7 through a pipe 6, the inside wall of which is supplied with a surfactant. Floating solid matter is removed from the oil by endless bonds 20, Fig. 7, driven by pulleys 18, 19 and water from a nozzle 22. Fig. 3 shows a surfactant reservoir 13, inside the mouth of the pipe 6, to which surfactant S is supplied through a duct 14 to flow out through a slit 12. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which a rubber diaphragm 15 is positioned over the slit 12 and bears against the wall to form a slit 12<SP>1</SP>. In Fig. 5 (not shown), the reservoir is outside the pipe and communicates with the inside through slits. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 6, the reservoir 13 is within the collecting tank 4 and a rubber membrane 15 with an outlet near the mouth of the pipe 6 is provided. Several examples of suitable surfactants are given.
