Abstract

1515258 Preparation of polyester oligomers FIBER INDUSTRIES Inc 10 March 1977 [22 Mareh 1976] 10141/77 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] The invention comprises a two-stage process for the preparation of polyester oligomers in which an alkylene glycol is esterified with a dicarboxylic acid in a first esterification stage at about atmospheric pressure using a molar ratio of acid to glycol in the range 1 : 1À0-1À2 and transferring the reaction product to a secondary esterifier operated at a pressure equal to or below that within the first esterification stage and adding additional alkylene glycol or alkylene carbonate to the secondary esterifier to complete the esterification reaction.
