Abstract

1514560 Liquid crystal display devices OMRON TATEISI ELECTRONICS CO 3 Dec 1975 [13 Dec 1974] 49661/75 HeadingG2F [Also in Division G5] A liquid crystal display device for use in a light reflective mode, comprises first and second light polarizers 22, 28, a layer 26 of liquid crystal material between said polarizers, a first pattern of electrodes 24 between polarizer 22 and layer 26, a second pattern of electrodes 27 on an inner surface of polarizer 28, a reflector 29 having a reflective surface 31 adjacent the outer surface of polarizer 28, and a seal 33 around the periphery of layer 26, whereby it is stated that "ghost" images are reduced. A transparent substrate 23 may be provided between polarizer 22 and electrodes 24. A further substrate 32, which may be opaque, may support the reflector. Alternatively, the reflector may comprise a reflective coating on the outer surface of polarizer 28 and electrodes 24 may be attached directly to an inner surface of polarizer 22. A transparent, protective coating may overlie electrodes 24, 27 and the other adjacent surfaces which support the electrodes. The coating has uniform uni-directional score marks thereon for inducing preferential liquid crystal molecular alignment.
