Abstract
1514172 Vehicle electrical systems LUCAS ELECTRICAL LTD 2 May 1975 [16 May 1974] 21732/74 Heading H2H The interior lamp of a vehicle is arranged to remain illuminated for a predetermined time after a vehicle door has been closed only if the hand-brake is on. The interior lamps 28 of a road vehicle are connected to the vehicle battery 11 by way of a normally open contact 27 of a relay 24 and a switch 25 which is closed when the handbrake is on. Opening of a vehicle door closes a switch 16 or 17 causes the rapid charging of a capacitor 15 and the transistors 21, 22 turn on to energize the winding of the relay 24 to close contact 27 thereby illuminating the lamps 28 if the switch 25 is closed by the handbrake being on. Closure of the door opens the switch 16 or 17, the transistors 21, 22 then remain turned on by the discharge of the capacitor 15 for a period of say, 60 seconds, to maintain the illumination of the lamps 28 for that time. Should the handbrake be released, the lamps 28 will be extinguished.
