1514115 Photo-copying G RITZERFELD 14 Oct 1976 [7 Nov 1975] 42710/76 Heading G2A A photo-copier employing a photo-conductive surface has a transparent platen on which an original is supported in two portions, one of which (e.g. comprising separate lines or groups of lines) is stepwise displaceable towards the other (e.g. comprising a heading) to form a loop (comprising material which is not to be copied). As shown, one portion of an original is maintained stationary while the other is advanced between rollers 36 and 37, roller 36 being situated between original holding down devices 44 and 45 and roller 37 being rotated by a stepping mechanism. The advancing arrangement may be moved laterally and may be pivoted away from the platen for conventional copying. The stepping mechanism may be raised to facilitate feeding. In other embodiments, Figs. 4-9 (not shown), a shaft between the original and the platen is stepwise lifted by pivotal levers connected to a stepping mechanism situated to one side of the shaft. Masking may be effected by a cover 54 (as shown), a web (46), Fig. 1 (not shown), below the platen and having reflective masks (50), a laterally displaceable mask (68) situated between the platen and the original (Fig. 6), illumination of the photoconductive surface (Fig. 4), or employing cut copy paper of limited length. In a line-by-line copier, stepping may be effected on completion of scanning (Fig. 1). Alternatively, a desired line may be key selected.
