Abstract
1514009 Tunnel linings VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISEN-UND STAHLWERKE-ALPINE MONTAN AG 22 Sept 1976 [19 Nov 1975] 39325/76 Heading E1F A tunnel lining ring segment comprises a shell 1 connected to two axially and radially outwardly extending flanges 2 and to two circumferentially and radially outwardly extending flanges 3, the shell 1 and flanges 2, 3 constituting an outwardly facing metal tub which is filled with a concrete member 4. Corresponding axial cross-sections of the tub and member 4 have at least approximately corresponding principal axes of inertia. The member 4 is attached to the flanges 2 by a joint which resists shear in a radial direction, such joint being formed by headed dowel pins 5 which are welded to the flanges 2. To allow a degree of articulation, however, gaps 6 may be provided adjacent the longitudinal edges of the flanges 2, the gaps 6 being preferably filled with resilient material 7. The concrete member 4 is provided with reinforcements 8 adjacent its surfaces facing the shell 1 and facing away from the shell. The flanges 3 are U-shaped in cross-section such that they are open towards the tunnel interior, concrete blocks 9 being positioned at intervals between the limbs of each flange 3 to transmit pressure when using a shield. The concrete may be cast in situ, and the shell 1 may be a plate having circumferentially extending corrugations.
