Abstract

1513460 Catalytic conversion of I.C. engine exhaust gases BRITISH LEYLAND UK Ltd 11 Oct 1976 [29 Oct 1975] 44516/75 Heading B1W [Also in Division F1] Secondary air is supplied by a pump 13 to a manifold 15 for addition to exhaust gas passing to an oxidation catalyst 3. Excess air from the pump 13 passes downstream of the catalyst 3 to cool the exhaust gases emitted therefrom. The amount of air distributed to the manifold 15 and downstream of the catalyst is controlled by a catalyst by-pass valve 12 which is solenoid operated in dependance of an oxygen concentration signal from a sensor 14. An air injector 5 with a one-way valve 10 may be provided downstream of the catalyst 3.
