Abstract

1513452 Aerials COMMUNICATIONS SATELLITE CORP 6 May 1975 [31 May 1974] 18871/75 Heading H4A In a toroidal reflector aerial system, a main reflector M has the shape of a surface portion of a torus and has a feed assembly comprising an aberration-correcting subreflector S and a feed horn H, the system being such that if an incoming beam to the main reflector is considered as a bundle of parallel rays, no two rays are incident at the same point on the surface of the subreflector S, substantially all rays focus at a single point at said feed horn and substantially all the ray path lengths from a reference aperture plane to said single point of focus are constant and equal to a predetermined reference path length. The main reflector M may be a section of a surface of revolution such as a circle, ellipse or hyperbola. In order to minimise aberrations, equations are derived from which points may be obtained using a digital computer for feeding into a numerically controlled milling machine used to machine the subreflector S.
