Abstract

1513376 Lockable hinges G REITH 8 Aug 1975 [31 Aug 1974] 38145/74 Heading E2F A lockable hinge comprises inner and outer coaxial members which are capable of rotatable and axially slidable relative movement and which include a projection on one member engaging in a slot on the other; the slot being arranged so that in at least one portion it allows axially sliding movement but locks the members against relative rotation. Such a hinge is suitable for a furniture leg needing to be locked in and out of use. Fig. 1 shows one embodiment comprising inner I and outer 2 members with a projection 6 on member 1 extending through a slot 3 having two angularly and longitudinally offset portions 4, and 5 defining two positions in which the members can be locked. A pin can engage holes in both members to prevent axial movement in the locked positions. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 4, 5, 6 and 7 an inner member 11 provided with projections 13A, 13B, 13C is located in an outer member 12 provided with a slot 14 into which abutments (e.g. 15A, 21A) project to define two positions for each projection (Figs. 5, 7) in which the members are locked against angular movement as well as allowing such movement when the inner member has been moved axially from the positions (Fig. 6).
