Abstract

1513132 Reciprocating pumps T BUXTON 8 May 1975 [9 Feb 1974] 06245/74 Heading F1A A pumping system for corrosive liquids or slurries comprises two or more chambers 1 divided into actuating and pumping compartments by a movable or deformable piston or membrane 1A, the pumping compartments communicating via valve means 55 with an inlet 56 and outlet 57, and the actuating compartments being connected to a driving liquid supply via respective cylinders 3 each containing a free piston which defines a liquid column between itself and its associated actuating compartment to prevent contamination of the driving liquid and to limit the displacement of the membrane 1A within the chamber 1. The free pistons operate limit switches 4 at the ends of their strokes to control a solenoid reversing valve 2 for connecting cylinders 3 to driving liquid supply pumps 9 and exhaust.
