Abstract

1512332 Rotary positive displacement compressors LINDE A G 3 May 1976 [7 May 1975] 17963/76 Heading F1F A rotary compressor 1 having a gas inlet 2 and a cooling oil supply passage 11 has control means 19 (as shown, a choke) for varying the flow of oil in dependence upon a control means 20 (as shown, a valve) for regulating the flow of gas through the compressor, both control means acting in the same sense. The compressor delivers through a non- return valve 4 to a separator 6 from which oil is returned to a pressurized tank 7. Pump 8 supplies oil for lubricating the bearings and to act on a piston 24, via a control valve 26, to open valve 20 and choke 19. When valve 26 vents the space 23 behind piston 24 to oil tank 10, valve 20 will close and choke 19 will restrict the flow of oil to the compressor. Also valve 18 will open to allow the compressor to discharge into tank 10, a pump 12 removing oil and possibly gas, the oil returning via separator 6 to tank 7. In another embodiment, pump 12 is replaced by a second compressor (31) acting in parallel with the first compressor (30) Figs. 3, 4 (not shown). The compressor (31) has a combined valve/choke (46) controlling gas and oil flows, and discharges into the outlet line of the first compressor downstream of the non-return valve (38).
