Abstract
1511737 Automatic analysis; specimen temperature control SOCIAL SERVICES SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 3 June 1976 [11 June 1975 20 Aug 1975] 25118/75 and 34676/75 Heading G1B Apparatus for investigating specimens comprises, Fig. 1, substantially horizontal turn-table 6 having a central rotational axis 3, motor 14 for stepping turn-table 6 and the specimen vessels it carries about the rotational axis, the vessels being supported so that they extend downwardly below the underside of the turn-table, an enclosure 52 for the turn-table providing a space bounded laterally and at the bottom by the enclosure wall, the vessels extending into the space, means 60 for changing the temperature of the air in the space and means positioned within the space and in the embodiment shown comprising vane 57 rotatable on shaft 3 by electric motor 4 for circulating air between the temperature changing means and the vessels within the space, the temperature changing means being provided with a control device (not shown) for maintaining the temperature of the vessels substantially at a predetermined value. The temperature changing means may comprise an air heater and/or a refrigerating device. The apparatus may include at least one liquid dispenser, Fig. 2, mounted adjacent the turn-table and comprising a tubular body having inlet 104, dispensing tip 110, means for dispensing liquid in predetermined quantities and temperature control means which in the embodiment shown comprises heating coil 106 wound around the tubular body, heat-insulative jacket 107 and thermistor 111 for controlling the amount of current supplied to the coil 106. In operation of the apparatus, using one dispenser, unheated serum sample is sucked into the tip 110 then the serum is dispensed together with a quantity of pre-heated diluent. Using another dispenser, a quantity of heated reagent and a quantity of heated diluent are dispensed.
