Abstract

1511481 Easy open containers W C LOVELL and F G J GRISE 9 May 1975 [11 May 1974] 20946/74 Heading B8D [Also in Division B3] In a container including a section 16 which can be manually pushed-in to provide an opening into the container, the push-in section 16 is at least partially defined by a line of weakness extending along a wall portion 22 of a channel and formed by an indentation which leaves a thin web 38 integrally connecting the push-in section 16 with the remainder of the container and provides a first face 46, extending substantially normal to the plane of the container wall portion surrounding the channel, and a second face 48 inclined to the first face 46. The channel is formed in, e.g. a closure member blank by co-operating forming and counter dies. This counter die 26 or a further similar counter die is used to support the blank during a subsequent indenting step. An indenting die 28 comprises annular indenting faces 30, 32, 34, the height of the indenting 32 above a rubber holding pad 36 varying to produce an indentation of varying depth.
