Abstract

1511241 Decorative products CHARLOTTE INVESTMENTS CORP 31 Jan 1975 [1 Feb 1974] 04829/74 Heading B2E A method of producing a mouldable laminate comprises providing a transparent layer of a thermoplastic acrylic material, applying an ink or paint layer on a face of the transparent layer and then applying an opaque backing layer of a thermoplastic acrylic material covering substantially all of the ink or paint layer. The ink or paint layer may be based on a thermoplastic material, which may be of low molecular weight. The transparent layer may be a cast sheet of polymethylmethacrylate and the decorative or functional, continuous or interrupted, layer of ink or paint may be applied by screen-printing. The product may be obtained by applying to one face of a substantially horizontally disposed transparent layer of thermoplastic acrylic material, an ink or paint layer, applying over the ink or paint layer and over uncovered parts, if any, a layer of a liquid acrylic polymerising mixture, allowing this mixture to continue to polymerise, maintaining the temperature of the polymerising mixture below the boiling point of any of its components and below a temperature at which the components of the ink or paint layer are aesthetically damaged and finally post curing the laminate, the polymerisation of the liquid acrylic polymerising mixture resulting in an opaque layer.
