Abstract

Surface treatment with liquid materials.-Relates to rollers for roads, paths, &c., and consists in the provision of special means for distributing water, oil, or other liquid evenly over the roller to prevent material from sticking to it. Fig. 2 shows a small distributing-roller 2 mounted in pivoted arms 3 and running in contact with the main roller 1. It extends across the roller 1 and may be covered with felt &c. It may be inclined to the axis of the roller 1 and mounted so as to move endwise when the direction of rotation of the roller 1 is reversed. Handles 6 are provided for lifting the distributing-roller 2, and catches for holding it in the raised position. The liquid is supplied from a tank 7 to a perforated pipe 8 above the roller 2. A box filled with soft material may replace the roller 2.
