8849. Oakes, E. J. June 16. Enamelling.-A machine for removing, by rubbing, glaze from the feet or bottoms of cups, teapots, &c. comprises a drum p covered with flannel or other suitable material and mounted on trunnions to rotate intermittently in a water trough b. The articles from which the glaze is to be removed are rubbed over one of the flat faces of the drum, the glaze adhering thereto being removed by rotating the drum in the water. Pawls may be used to retain the drum in a fixed position, the pawls being withdrawn before turning the drum. Water and surplus-glaze outlets are provided at d, e respectively. To facilitate the renewal of the rubbing-surface t, one of the sides t<1> of the drum is hinged at t<2>, the rubbing-material being secured on spikes u, v. Work-boards l, m, n, o are provided. According to the Provisional Specification, a cylindrical roller may be used.
