Abstract

1511064 Cutting apparatus R W MORGAN and D L WITHERSPOON 15 Jan 1976 [31 Jan 1975] 01607/76 Heading B4B An apparatus for cutting sheet material into segments or panels comprises a support table 14 with an opening 14C between its two spaced surfaces 14A, 14B, a conveyer 20 which engages the underside of the material which spans the opening, a clamp 19 to hold the leading end of the material and a cutter unit which traverses the material after it has been formed into an inverted U shape by the conveyer 20. The material is fed manually from a spool 16 to the clamp 19. The conveyer 20 has a pair of spaced parallel chains connected by crossbars 21R. The chains engage a driven sprocket 24A connected to an electric motor 27. The motor is energized after the clamp 19 and stopped when the height of the U of material reaches a height determined by an adjustable limit switch 31. A tape ruler 35 indicates the height of the U of material. A second clamp 49 is provided for the material during cutting by a blade 37 on a carriage (38), Fig. 2 (not shown), guided on a bar 40. The cut-off segment is carried by the conveyer bar 21R to a support 22A.
