Abstract

External spark gaps; testing.-Consists in testing sparking-plugs by means of a device comprising one spark gap in series with the plug and ono spark gap in shunt. As shown in Fig. 2, the device comprises an insulating-block a with two points d adjustably screwed in its base and two corresponding points c, e<1> mounted over them. The points a are connected together and to a terminal p which is intended to be connected to the central insulated conductor of a sparking-plug as shown in Fig. 6; the point c is connected by a lead n to a spring o, Fig. 5, for attachment to the body of the sparking-plug; and the point e' is connected to a terminal m which is intended to receive the high-tension lead from the magneto. The points e, e<1> are mounted against springs and provided with handles k, l and stops g adapted to rest on shoulders i or to slip into notches therein. The point e<1> can thus be held at sparking distance from its point d or brought in contact therewith, and the point d can be held beyond or at sparking distance from its point d; this enables the sparking-plug to be tested with a spark gap in series and subsequently with a spark gap in parallel.
