Abstract
224,660. Chambers, H. C. Sept. 28, 1923. Two-part couplings combined with electric switches. A device for preventing the unauthorized use of internal combustion engines comprises a body part 1 having a cylindrical recess 2 into which slides a removable key 24; the key contains a number of conductors 27 terminating in two sets of contacts 25, 26 which contact with other contacts on the interior of the recess, each conductor 27 then forming a bridge to complete a circuit to a sparking plug. The key has an irregular portion 28 which fits a correspondingly shaped collar 7 on the body 1 and to provide additional protection devices may vary in regard to the actual situations of the contacts 25, 26 and as to the manner in which they are interconnected. The circuit to each sparking plug commences at a terminal 16, proceeds by a conductor 18 to an observation spark gap 19, conductor 20, plunger contact 21, contact 25, conductor 27, contact 25, and thence by a plunger contact 23 to a terminal 17. The spark gaps 19 are situated in an annular recess visible through a window 9 provided with a rotatable shutter 12 and enable the correct working of the engine to be observed. Insertion of the key 24 into the recess 2 is also adapted to press back a plunger carrying two conducting discs 35 one of which then bridges contacts 39 in the circuit to the starting motor and the other of which breaks circuit between contacts 40 in a. circuit which earths the magnets. The holder 33 for the contacts 39 may be rotated into the most convenient position.
