Abstract

Testing ignition.-A spark gap in series with each plug is mounted within a casing formed by a back a of insulating material, sides c of conducting material formed with securing lugs, and a transparent removable cover c<2>. Two sets of stems d<1>-<4> and g<1>-<4> are screwed into the back a and are connected to the plugs and to the source of current repectively. The upper terminals f of each set take the form of adjustable tapered threaded pins. The terminals of the conductors g<1>-<4> are button-shaped, and the heads g<x> may be eccentric to the stem or may be star-shaped affording provision at each terminal for adjusting the size of the gap. A flexible or adjustable rod m of conductive material traverses the casing at such a distance from the terminals g<x> that a spark will jump to the earthed rod m should one or more of the plugs be oiled up or otherwise unable to pass the current. The magneto and plug leads i, j are secured to the stems d<1>-<4>, g<1>-<4> by screwed sleeves k, the ends of the stems being pointed. Protective sleeves s are provided. When mounted on non-conductive material, an earthed connection is fitted to the casing. Clips may be mounted on the stems d<1>-<4>, g<1>-<4> for holding neon &c. tubes to be used when the magneto is too weak for the use of the additional spark gaps.
