Abstract
1510873 Fluid-pressure boosters; hydraulic turbines; pumps OAK RIDGE MACHINES 19 May 1975 [24 May 1974] 21114/75 Headings F1C, F1D, F1F, F1T A fluid-pressure booster, Fig. 3, comprises a body 10, with inlet and outlet ports 16, 18, and a bore 20 connectable to a fluid-pressure operated device, and a sliding spool 22 within the body with which are associated means to convert a high volume low-pressure flow into a low volume high pressure flow, the spool being movable from a first position shown, in which fluid flows from the inlet port 16 through the bore 20 to the device, to a second position, Fig. 4, in which fluid flows from the inlet port through the converter means to the outlet port 18 and also to the device to be operated. In one embodiment, Figs, 3, 4 the pressure converting means is a turbine type pump 58, 60 and motor 50 ,52. In operation, with the spool 22 as shown in Fig. 3, fluid flows from the inlet 16 through the bore 20 to the device to be operated, and, as pressure builds up therein, the spool moves to the right against a spring 28 and is damped by fluid passing through an orifice 48. When the position shown in Fig. 4 is reached, fluid flows from the inlet 16 to the outlet 18 and in so doing turns the turbine motor. This rotates the pump blades 58 and increases the pressure of the fluid flowing therethrough to the device. In a second embodiment, Figs. 5, 6, (not shown), the turbine device is replaced by a gear-pump and motor which operate in a similar manner when the spool moves to the right.
