Abstract

1510782 Mixing apparatus BRITISH INDUSTRIAL PLASTICS Ltd 16 April 1975 [21 June 1974] 27783/74 Heading B1C A process for joining components comprises providing in a vessel 1, Fig. 1, a synthetic resin-based adhesive free from hardener, circulating the adhesive through the vessel and through a circuit 4 external of the vessel, extracting adhesive from the external circuit, adding a hardener to the extractive adhesive to render it curable, and applying the curable adhesive to at least one of two components to be joined. The adhesive is supplied to the vessel 1 from a mixer 2 into which is continuously fed urea-formaldehyde adhesive resin, finely divided china clay, and water, the mixture passing through an outlet 3 to the vessel. The adhesive is circulated through the vessel and the ring circuit 4 by a slowspeed pump 5, the circuit having valve-controlled take-off conduits 6 to which is fed a hardener from storage tanks A, B connected by metering devices 8 and a common feed 9 to the conduits 6. The conduits 6 have. applicators 7 for applying the curable adhesive to at least one of two components, such as panels, to be laminated. The mixer 2 has a cylindrical casing 16, Fig. 2, with a hemispherical lower end and a detachable top which has a plurality of inlets 12, 13, 14 and rotatably supports a stirrer 11. A partition 16 extends to near the bottom of the casing and separates the inlets from the outlet 15. In another embodiment, the outlet is near the bottom of the . casing and cylindrical partitions extend from the top and bottom of the casing.
