Abstract

1510678 Electrodes for fuel cells INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE 27 June 1975 [4 July 1974] 27338/75 Heading H1B A fuel cell comprises a block of stacked electrodes, defining channels for circulation of an electrolyte (e.g. KOH), a fuel gas (e.g. H2) and a combustion sustaining gas (e.g. air). The electrodes are microporous and have flatfloored recesses to form channels between opposed electrodes. The end portions l of each pair of electrodes are spaced apart so that during sealing of the cell in a bath of solidifiable resin material (Fig. 6, not shown), the height of penetration of the material into the block by capillarity is kept small. The electrodes are spaced by thin sheets of felt 13, which are wet by the electrolyte, and gas-permeable insulating separators 14.
