Abstract
1510397 Removal of NO x , from gaseous effluents IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 9 March 1977 [8 April 1976] 14361/76 Heading C1A Nitrogen oxides (NO) are removed from an effluent gas containing more than 50 vol. per cent N 2 and up to 1 vol. per cent NO x by contacting the gas with at least 50 parts by wt. per part by wt. of NO x (calc. as NO 2 ) of a distillation residue (KA still residue) obtained by oxidizing cyclohexane to cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone, the residue containing not more than 5 wt. per cent free cyclohexanol. The effluent gas preferably contains sufficient O 2 to oxidize NO to NO 2 , if not, air may be added. The contact temperature of the effluent with the KA residue may be 40-100‹C The process is applicable in a plant for making adipic acid from cyclohexane, in which effluent from cyclohexanone oxidation and nitric acid formation are treated with the KA distillation residue.
