Abstract

1468109 Modified platinum catalyst INVENTA AG FUR FORSCHUNG UND PATENTVERWERTUNG 13 Oct 1975 [14 Oct 1974] 41768/75 Heading B1E [Also in Division C1] A catalyst containing platinum metal e.g. supported on active carbon, is modified, for use in the production of hydroxylamine by hydrogenation of nitric oxide, by treating, in an acid medium containing a hydroxylamine salt and in the absence of a reducing agent other than the hydroxylamine salt, with a tellurium (iv) or (vi) compound in an amount of 1 to 60 atom percent tellurium based on the platinum metal. The solution may be 1-SN in the hydroxylamine salt, e.g. the sulphate, and up to SN in the acid, e.g. sulphuric acid. The tellurium compound may be tellurium dioxide dissolved in sulphuric acid, telluric acid or its salts, e.g. alkali metal salts. Suitably, the treatment is effected under a protective gas atmosphere, e.g. nitrogen or argon.
