1510251 Well pipe suspension apparatus McEVOY OILFIELD EQUIPMENT CO 16 Jan 1976 01734/76 Heading E1F Well pipe suspension apparatus comprises a pipe hanger 16 carried within a wellhead 10 and an annular frusto-conical gasket 40 having inner and outer circumferential edges which have an interference fit with the pipe hanger and wellhead respectively. The gasket may be made of metal which is softer than that of the pipe hanger or wellhead. Preferably the gasket has a larger inner diameter and a smaller outer diameter than the pipe hanger or wellhead, respectively, at the point of engagement and is compressed beyond its yield point. The lower corners of the inner and outer circumferences of the gasket may be rounded. The gasket may be stressed by being retained on its upper and lower surfaces between frusto-conical support surfaces having a cone angle greater than that of the gasket in the unstressed condition. Annular retainer rings e.g. 30, 48 may be provided above and/or below the gasket. In another embodiment two frusto-conical gaskets, which are oppositely (Figs. 5 and 6 not shown) or parallelly (Figs. 7 and 8 not shown) disposed and separated by a deformable ring, are disposed between an inner cylindrical pipe hanger surface and an outer cylindrical wellhead surface and compressed by two parallel surfaces. In another embodiment (Figs. 9 and 10 not shown) an annular frusto-conical gasket is fitted between an inner tapered pipe hanger surface and an outer cylindrical wellhead surface. The wellhead and pipe hanger may be sealed at both an upper and a lower location and the pipe hanger is held in place by lockscrews 22 having tapered ends which cooperate with a tapered recess in the pipe hanger.
