1510181 Washing machines LINEAR INTERNATIONAL CORP 27 June 1975 [17 July 1974] 27370/75 Heading D1A In a washing machine having a clothes tub 71 or the like which may be rotated or oscillated, stopping means 82, 83, 84, 85 are provided on the tub 71 or casing 70 and elastic rebound means 90 on the other, means 82, 83, 84 or 85 and means 90 engaging one another at substantially the same time that switching means 99 reverses the motor drive. Tub 71 is rotatably supported in recess 81 in casing 71 on a bearing surface of tetrafluoroethylene. Tub 71 has interior fins 74, 76 and carries the rotor 77 of a linear motor whose stator 78 is carried on casing 70. Rigid stops 82, 83, 84 and 85 are provided on tub 71 and a steel or like curved flexible bar 90 is adjustably secured to casing 70 to be raised and lowered by actuator 95 so that it can be lowered out of range of stops 82, 83, 84 and 85 during spin drying. Magnets 107, 108 with their north and south poles respectively outwards so that, as they pass reed switch 99, the direction of the motor is reversed. The tub may be oscillated reversing taking place caused only by the motor. During spin drying liquid passes out through perforations at a greater rate than it flows out through drain 88 so that water accumulates in casing 70 which causes fins 86 on tub 71 to brake the tub fins 87 in the casing preventing the water from rotating as a whole. In modifications, the stops may carry coil springs or rubber buffers to lessen the impact.
