Abstract

1510093 Labelling apparatus HI-SPEED CHECKWEIGHER CO Inc 26 Jan 1977 03091/77 Heading B8F Apparatus for labelling articles 14 on a conveyer 12 comprises a foot 70a for applying a label 20 to an article 14 and a foot 70b for "moulding" the label to assume the contour of the upper surface of the article and effect a uniform bond therebetween. Each foot is slidably mounted in a support 96a, 96b at the end of a vertically movable rod 82a, 82b so that it can move horizontally with the article and relative to the support 96a, 96b. A spring 104a, 104b returns each foot to its initial position when the foot has been lifted clear of the article by a piston and cylinder unit (88a), 88b) Fig. 1 (not shown). Each foot descends into engagement with an article under the action of gravity and a spring (94a), (94b). Labels 20 are removed from a backing strip 22 as the latter passes around an edge 42 of an adjustable plate 40 and are held on the foot 70a by a vacuum applied to passages 112. The transfer of the labels to the foot 70a is assisted by air jets 48.
