Abstract
1509478 Matrix and alphanumeric displays INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 10 Dec 1976 51617/76 Heading G5C To connect the elements of a matrix or segmental display panel 2 of any type to semiconductor switches, e.g. integrated thin film transistors or discrete FET's 3, anisotropic resistance (AR) layer is interposed, possibly with the display elements formed directly on one side of the AR layer, and possibly with the semi-conductor circuitry formed directly on the other side: the display may be connected by electrodes passing through the rear substrate of the display panel. The AR layer may be made from C fibres or, e.g. Cu wires, stacked parallel, bonded with resin and sliced across their lengths, the wires if necessary being preinsulated. Alternatively such a structure may be solidified from a eutectic as disclosed in Specification 1,311,659, or anisotropically conducting glass or rods embedded in glass may be used.
