Abstract
Polymer dispersions are prepared by emulsion or suspension polymerisation with opening of C-C double bonds of at least one monomer in aqueous liquor, decompression of the polymer batch and discharge and condensation of the gaseous products. In at least two vertical, rotationally symmetrical containers connected in series, the dispersion is sprayed radially, in the form of a hollow cone or disc, against the container wall; the droplets have a maximum diameter of 6 mm. They are deposited on the container wall and collected in the lower part of the container. The gaseous substances are drawn out of the spray device above the dispersion exit. The gaseous substances are passed from container to container in only one direction and the dispersion in the opposite direction. This process allows physiologically unacceptable substances to be removed directly after the polymerisation, using comparatively low apparatus volumes. <IMAGE>
