Abstract

Frame components, sections and forms of, and applying and combining.-A motor-vehicle frame which may be readily disconnected comprises front and rear transverse load-supporting members adapted for connexion to the springs of the front and rear axles, and longitudinal detachable struts between the transverse members. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the transverse members E, Care connected to cantilever springs A. and are braced together by longitudinal rods F which pass through the two-part gear-case 11 and are extended to pass through the crank case 2, securing collars and nuts being fitted, as shown. The back member C is arched to allow the tube 13 to move up and down, while the front member E forms the closing end of the crank case and is flanged or bossed to receive the crank case and to take the weight of the engine. Steps 26 are fitted over extensions of the members E, C, and additional bracing rods 17 are fitted. In a second form, the longitudinal rods are omitted and the steps form these bracing members. In this case the front transverse member E in addition to closing the crank case, closes the gear box, which is fitted close up to the member E on the opposite side to the crank case, both cases being connected and secured by bolts passed through the member- E. In a third form, Fig. 13, where the axles are supported by double elliptical springs, the loadsupporting members C, E are arranged immediately over the springs, and connected by longitudinal bracing members F", additional transverse non-load-supporting members 39 being fitted. In a fourth form used with elliptical springs, the front and rear load-supporting members C, E are duplicated, the longitudinal rods being passed through them and through an additional transverse member against which the gear box is fitted.
