Abstract

1508115 Drying webs FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 20 July 1976 [25 July 1975] 30056/76 Heading F4G [Also in Division G2] A coated silver halide emulsion is dried by first drying the thinner areas of the layer using a method other than the application of microwaves and then drying the remaining thicker areas using microwaves. The complete manufacturing process comprises (a) coating a continuously travelling web with a light sensitive silver halide emulsion layer, the layer having areas of the desired thickness and other thicker areas which occur, for example, along the web edges, at buttjoints, and at irregularities in the web surface, (b) cooling and setting the emulsion layer, (c) drying the areas having the desired thickness e.g. by blowing air against the emulsion surface, (d) using microwaves to dry the still wet thicker areas and (e) humidifying the dried material.
