Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance adhesion between a glass support and a silver halide emulsion layer, by using as a subbing layer a colloidal silica of mean particle diameter 10mmu or less in a colloidal state and a gelatin in a specified weight ratio range on the glass support. CONSTITUTION:In preparation of a photographic material for an emulsion mask for use in a semiconductor device, the fluid to be coated to form a subbing layer on a glass support contains a colloidal silica of 10mmu or less mean particle diameter, preferably within 7-9mmu, in a weight ratio of gelatin to silica of from 1:1-1:6, and by 0.5-4g of gelatin and 1-8g of silica per 100ml of the subbing fluid. This subbing fluid is coated and dried to give a dried film thickness of about 0.1-0.4mu, and then a silver halide emulsion layer is formed on this subbing layer in a thickness of about 2mu after coating and drying. Thus, a photosensitive material superior in adhesion between the glass support and the emulsion layer and prevented from flaking off during processings of developing and fixing is obtained.
