Abstract

1508055 Laminates TH GOLDSCHMIDT AG 17 Oct 1975 [19 Oct 1974] 42645/75 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] Paper for use in laminates may be impregnated with a resin composition containing (1) a condensate of formaldehyde with phenol and/or urea and/or thiourea and/or melamine and (2), as release agent, a silane or linear siloxane R<SP>1</SP>O[R<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP>SiO] 1-500 R<SP>1</SP> or a cyclic siloxane [R<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP>SiO] 3+ , wherein R<SP>1</SP> is H, alkyl or Me 3 Si-, R<SP>2</SP> is a C 8-32 alkyl radical or -(CH 2 ) 10 COOR<SP>1</SP> or -R<SP>4</SP>O.CO(C 12-22 alkyl) or -R<SP>4</SP>O(C 8-22 alkyl), R<SP>4</SP> being a divalent organic radical, or up to 80% of the groups R<SP>2</SP> may be CH 3 , and R<SP>3</SP> is CH 3 or a C 1-4 alkoxy group. Preferably there is used 0À05-0À5 p.h.r. of the release agent; the composition may be aqueous. In the examples compositions are prepared containing 100 p.b.w. of a 50% aqueous MF resin and 1 pbw. of a 35% of an aqueous emulsion of a release agent which has the formula wherein b is 50 (except in Ex. 1: 498; Ex. 2: 500; Ex. 15: 1; Ex. 18: 34) and R<SP>2</SP> is one of various long chain alkyl ether or ester groups and/or a long chain alkyl groups, or is a cyclotetrasiloxane [MeR<SP>2</SP>SiO] 4 , or a silane (EtO) 3 SiR<SP>2</SP> or (EtO) 2 MeSiR<SP>2</SP>. The compositions are used to impregnate paper for lamination to chipboard.
