Abstract

1507673 Gas filter ENGINEERING COMPONENTS Ltd 14 March 1975 [20 March 1974] 12403/74 Heading BIT A filter (e.g. for an I.C. engine air intake) comprises a filter element mounted in a housing 2 having an inlet 3 and outlet 4, clogging of element 1 being indicated by an audible warning device 5 which is actuated by the gas flowing through inlet 3 but normally restrained from actuation by a diaphragm 6. exposed on opposite sides to the inlet and outlet pressures. Device 5 may comprise a vibrating reed which is restrained by an arm extending from the diaphragm until the pressure difference reaches a sufficient level to move the arm away. Instead of tube 7 connecting one side of the diaphragm to the outlet, the diaphragm could be located in the outlet, exposed on one side to atmospheric pressure (which is equal to the inlet pressure) and restrain the device 5 through a mechanical, electrical or pneumatic linkage.
