Abstract
1507461 Submerged arc welding flux BOC INTERNATIONAL Ltd 4 June 1975 [4 March 1974] 9656/74 Heading C7M [Also in Division B3] A flux for submerged arc welding Ni containing steels comprises in weight per cent 0-5 MgO, 8-15 SiO 2 , 30-50 CaF2, 30-50 Al 2 O 3 , 0-10 rutile and 0-10 of other metal oxides or metals. The MgO may be present as the oxide carbonate, silicate or as an impurity in manganese silicate and the SiO 2 may be present as the oxide or silicate particularly the alkali metal silicate. The flux may also contain 1-8% manganese oxide, oxides of Na, K, Ca, and Zr and the metals Mn, Ti, Al, Mo, Nb and W. The fluxes may be melted, sintered or preferably agglomerated with an aqueous alkali metal silicate solution of S.G. 1À3-1À6 and dried at 500‹C minimum in a rotating oven. 5-10% of the SiO 2 . content may be introduced into the flux in this way.
