1506936 Charging coke ovens HARTUNG KUHN & CO MASCHINENFABRIK GmbH 27 March 1975 [3 April 1974] 13091/75 Heading F4B In coke oven charging apparatus comprising a lorry car 13 provided with a plurality of coal feed hoppers 14, 15, 16, 17 one to each charging opening 6, 7, 8 and 9 and with a corresponding number of mechanical conveyers for charging coal from each hopper into a respective charging opening, each conveyer comprises an elongate horizontal rotatable member 18 constructed and arranged to interrupt repeatedly, on rotation of the member, the flow of coal into the coke oven chamber 2 through the respective charging opening. The streams of coal 21, 22, 23, 24 issuing from the individual feed hoppers may all be interrupted at the same time or they may be interrupted successively; the periods during which the streams of coal are interrupted may be lengthened as the level of coal 20 in the oven chamber increases. The conveyers may each comprise a screw 47 carrying a hollow cylindrical segment 51, Fig. 3 or circular disc sector (53, Fig. 5, not shown) extending over an angle of approximately 180 degrees at its discharge end to ensure intermittent interruption of coal supply to a vertically movable telescopic charging pipe 19. Alternatively the surface 72 of the screw conveyer 71 may be interrupted at equal intervals 73, see Fig. 7 (and Fig. 8, not shown). The screw conveyer may be driven by a single or variable speed motor 48. Charging gases are removed from the oven chamber via a take-off main 11 communicating with a longitudinally extending collector main 12.
