Abstract

1506499 Injection carburetters ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 28 April 1975 [13 May 1974] 17476/75 Heading F1B A fuel injection system for mixture-compressing, spark-ignition I.C. engines with continuous injection into the inlet manifold comprises a measuring element 2 arranged to be displaced within the inlet manifold through a distance proportional to the quantity of air flowing through the manifold, against a restoring force, and to thereby move a valve member 14 for metering a fuel quantity proportional to the air quantity, and the restoring force is provided by a fluid pressure acting at 15 on the valve member and variable by means of variations in the opening and closing working cycle of a solenoid valve 42 which is controllable via an electronic control circuit 52 by means of a temperature sensor via a lead 53 during engine warm-up and thereafter in dependence upon an engine operational variable such as the oxygen content of the exhaust gas as sensed by a probe 55. The control is effected by varying the mark-to space ratio of energizing pulses fed via a lead 51 to the solenoid valve 42. The pulse frequency may be constant or may be that of the engine ignition or a multiple thereof. The opening time of the solenoid valve may be constant, the frequency being varied in accordance with the operational variables. The fluid used is fuel, derived from a constant pressure fuel line 21, the solenoid valve 42 being connected in series with a restrictor 37 between the line 21 and a drain line 48. A further restrictor may be provided downstream of the solenoid valve. The line 21 is kept at constant pressure by means of a relief valve 23.
