Abstract

1505670 Rollers FELIX BOTTCHER 14 July 1975 [13 July 1974] 29513/75 Heading F2U A roller having a surface of flock fibres 3 has a base 1 with an adhesive coating 2 securing the flock fibres 3 to the base 1 and an additional film 4 is provided to additionally secure the flock fibres 3. The film 4 may have an affinity for the fibres 3 and so coat them (Fig. 3, not shown) or it may have a thickness such that it completely encloses the flock fibres 3, which then act as reinforcement (Fig. 5, not shown). The roller base 1 may comprise a metal core and an outer layer of chloroprene rubber or nitrilebutadiene rubber. The adhesive 2 is applied to this and the roller is then electrostatically flocked with, for example, polyamide fibres, and then the film 4 applied in one or more layers. The film 4 may be applied as a dispersion of nitrile-butadiene rubber or a solution of styrenebutadiene rubber. Other fibres which may be used comprise cotton, linen, jute, hemp, wool, cellulose derivatives or various synthetic resin fibres. The roller may be used in printing, for applying ink or dampening with water, the surface being oleophilic or hydrophilic.
