Abstract
1505650 Linkwork WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO Ltd 16 Sept 1975 [18 Sept 1974] 40605/74 Heading F2K [Also in Division E2] In a driving and locking mechanism suitable for controlling a sliding door, a drive member 10 is coupled to a driven member 5 by two mutually pivoted links 6, 9 which, over a range of movement of members 10, 5, are constrained, e.g. in a colinear disposition by rollers 13, 14 running within a guide track 17, the constraint being removed at a point beyond this range to allow pivotal movement of the links 6, 9 so that the link 6 swings into a position in which the line joining the pivots 7, 8 carried by the link 6 takes up a vertical or over-vertical position (Fig. 1) in relation to the surface of an abutment 18, thereby to oppose movement of the member 10 by forces applied to member 5. In the preferred embodiment, the drive member 10 is connected to a guided rod 11 of a door actuator, and the driven member 5 is a bracket attached to the hanger (3) of a sliding door (2), the hanger being connected to rollers running within a tubular member 1. Thus, in the position of Fig. 1, the door remains locked in the closed position until the actuator is energized to move the rod 11 to the left. In a modification allowing a degree of movement of the closed doors, the abutment 18 is made resilient by mounting it on horizontally slidable rods carrying springs, and, to provide an anti-rattle facility, the surface of the abutment 18 may be curved so that the roller 14 tends to jam against it when rolling down it.
